- Arrive 15 minutes before your session time. Due to the nature of mini sessions, any time you are late will cut in to your session time and result in less images received. Be sure to drive 15 minutes before your session to ensure everyone is 100% dressed and ready and you have time to walk across the small hill to the shooting location.
- Keep your nails clean. Be sure that your nails are manicured nicely and either left natural, french manicured, or painted a pale pink.
- Do not spray tan or fake tan. These tans always photograph very orange – especially on blondes. The only tan that photographs well is a natural tan from the sun.
- Be sure your outfits are wrinkle-free. Bring all of your outfits on hangers with all accessories attached to them. This ensures that you can change outfits quickly without taking up too much of your session time.
- Go with the flow. If you have little ones in your session, it’s really important we keep them happy. If they start to get fussy, I will redirect the session to refocus and get them happy again. Bribery always works pretty well with young ones, like a promised ice cream trip after the session. The worst thing you can do during your session is to scold your child or tell them to smile – as this rarely results in a real smile!
“Maddie took the most beautiful senior pictures of my baby girl - she has a gift with light and Texas at its best.”
"Maddie Ray is amazing! She did a wonderful job with my daughter's Senior pictures. She has a great eye, and is also really fun and down to earth! Love her!!"
- DO choose outfits that are earth tones, jewel tones, or neutral colors for fall – These colors look the best in combination with my style of photography. Take a look at my blog and the Pinterest board below to see what other people have warn to give you an idea of what color palette you like best!
- DO wear solids or florals. – Stay away from text, stripes, or patterns; however, the current floral trend photographs so beautifully! The print, color, and size of the florals will matter greatly to the overall look of the photos, so please send over dresses/outfits you are considering if you are wanting to go this route, so I can let you know if it will photograph well!).
- DO wear clothes that fit with a natural, outdoor environment. – Guys, leave your work khakis and stiff collared shirts at home. Stick with casual khakis, colored pants, or jeans and relaxed shirts. Girls, wear wedges, booties, or sandals. Stilettos won’t fit in with the environment and will be very hard to get around in!
- DO dress in layers. – It adds depth and texture to your outfit.
- DO coordinate outfits with everyone, but don’t match exactly – Consider the group as a whole when choosing all of the outfits; however, don’t have everyone match exactly.
- DO refer to this Pinterest Board I have put together. –This board has lots of ideas and examples of family outfits that would photograph great.
- DON’T choose outfits that are bright or bold colored (reds, corals, blacks, neons, etc). These colors reflect back create unflattering skin tones.
- DON’T wear white. – White gets blown out easily in photos and photographs very blue. Off-white and ivory photograph much better!.
- DON’T wear shorts. –Shorts do not photograph very well on grown ups (kids are okay!).
- DON’T choose outfits that have text, logos, graphics, or patterns. – (with the exception of floral print mentioned above).
- DON’T wear a watch. – It reflects light back into the camera.
- DON’T wear anything strapless. – Unfortunately, no matter how fit you are, strapless dresses and shirts always create a “roll” where you arm means your torso. They also cause you to look unclothed for the close up photos. If you find something you love that is strapless, try to find some type of sweater to wear with it.
